Allahabad High Court Says Act Went Beyond Ordinary Crime, Struck at Religious Sentiments and Public Order.

Allahabad High Court.
The Allahabad High Court has upheld the 10-month preventive detention of three men under the National Security Act for alleged illegal cattle slaughter on the first day of Navratri in Jalaun district of Uttar Pradesh.
A Bench of Justices Chandra Dhari Singh and Devendra Singh-I dismissed habeas corpus petitions filed by Hasnen, Saiyyaj Ali and Sikandar.
The case arose from an FIR dated March 31, 2025, alleging illegal slaughter of cattle coinciding with Chaitra Navratri and the eve of Eid. Authorities claimed recovery of approximately three quintals of beef and weapons, asserting that the incident triggered communal tension.

Though the accused had secured bail in April 2025, the District Magistrate issued detention orders under the NSA on April 28, 2025.
The Allahabad High Court ruled that the detention orders were supported by cogent material and that the incident’s timing elevated it beyond a mere law-and-order issue into a matter affecting public order and communal harmony.
Advocate Sushil Kumar appeared for the detainees, while ASGI Manish Pandey represented the State.
